Mummy Sunday 17

Inspired by one of my favorite bloggers LondonBuki, this is my seventeenth Mummy Sunday post and the sixth installment of the “When You Weren’t There Mummy” series!!! This one is written in memory… the good the memory registers even in the midst of the bad.

My Gold Watch

Mummy,

Not like my father as much as I did then… there are some things I think of in relation to him that actually make me smile.

He was an impressive looking man wasn’t he…

I say ‘was’ cos I’m not sure what he looks like anymore…my image of him has gotten blurry in the past few years…

…he might not be as handsome now that I’ve seen real beauty…
…he might not be as tall now that I’ve grown a bit…
…he might not be as scary now that I’m stronger…

Mummy, I’m not sure how I’d feel if I ever saw you wearing brown or even pink lipstick… cos my entire life… even the times when you weren’t there… the first thing I thought of in relation to you is RED lipstick.

In all the years I lived and ‘un-lived’ with my father… he always wore a Gold watch. It was a gorgeous, huge watch whose colour never faded… It had a big screen and really big links… the most wondrous thing he owned in my opinion
… it was such a thrill for (11 year old) me to sneak into his room and try it on when he wasn’t home… I’d wear it for hours on end… and even snuck it to school on quite a few occasions…

Looking back on it now he probably had a spare cos he never went anywhere without that watch…

It was so beautiful and big and always almost falling off my wrist … so I had to constantly flip it up… then it’d catch the (sun)light… and sometimes glint small circles on the board…
…Joy…

I haven’t thought about that watch in years… but then I went to a store last week and saw this beautiful shiny male gold watch… I tried it on and didn’t want to take it off.

I left the store without it… but had to go back and buy it…

I’d most likely get offended if someone told me that I’m like my father either in looks or actions… but I somehow don’t mind feeling connected to my better memories of him… in…

i'm extremely close to my father and i love it when i'm reminded of the ways we look alike, the things i did as a child that my mother would complain about and my grandmum would laugh and tell her when my dad did the same exact thing as a child. the times i would get sick every time i was separated from him for more than one day. i treasure lots of memories from my childhood days when it was me, my dad and the rest of the world. he spoils me rotten even till now.

i'm glad that u do have some good memories of ur father in spite of the bad. i believe it gives one balance in life.

dont stop with the mummy posts, each one leaves me longing for more.

ps: what is this brownie thingy?

Awwwwwwwwwwww *hug hug*

My friend has a torn T-shirt that used to belong to his mum, he says it brings him luck and really comforted him when she had to travel abroad for a long time when they were kids :)

I loved it loved it, loved it, loved it.
I understand exactly what you're talking about. It's like my grand-dad used to burn his toast on purpose, scrape it up with a knife and put some marmalade on that baby, I can't eat my toast anyother way,
I have a thing for mens watches. I love ur mummy's post girl(look at me sounding like an overexcited groupie, lol)
good job love

Nigerian fathers...do they ever know their daughters?
Do we ever see them as men or as demi-gods?
Do we ever not love them?
Fathers and daughters like mothers and sons...

Teediva: awwwwwww…. The relationship with you and your dad is really sweet… I can’t say I have that… but my relationship with my mom more than makes up for it… she’s my everything. Yeah I didn’t write a mummy Sunday in a long while… it’s odd cos whenever I’m going through certain things or not in the right frame of mind I can’t write them… cos it’s a bit emotional sometimes… and sometimes I just don’t wanna go there… but yeah I’ll keep em coming… take care of yourself sweetie… and have a great weekend… mines gonna be fantasticcccccccccccccccccccccccccccccc… hehe (I’ll tell ya later…)

Anonymous: First? No… but close enough… I’m great thanks sweetie… I love the watch as well… just about everybody seems to love it (smile)… have a great rest of the week

Confused child: lol… I was never a big fan of watches… just my dads… which has translated into a lot of male watches… I don’t think I’ve ever used my money to buy a feminine watch in my entire life… and I don’t think I’ve ever really worn any that were given to me… yeah… there are some good memories… I have to dig deep for them sometimes but there are some good memories…

Omosewa: my darling sewa baby… thanks oh… I dey oh… just chilling jare… omo this weather we no come understand again but it could be worse… so I’m taking my time wirrit… and thinking of what colour to paint my fingernails… lol. you crack me up oh this babe… lol

Nikkisab: ahhh… not first… but no worries sha… I guess next time.. how you been darling?

Comrade: something of that nature… I’ll check you out later… welcome to blogspot… you should like it… comrade… interesting name…

My 2 cents: lol @ trying on your fathers accessories… do our fathers wear much accessories well except for the ‘chieftaincy’ jewelry and watches? I think I even tried on a couple of those red coloured beads as well… lol… ahhhhh… my 2 cents you have great things in mind for me oh… no be small… thanks my darling… hope everythings been good with u… missed you.

Confused child: lol everybody wants the first prize…

The last kind of Scotland: I’m just chilling homie… what you saying?

Cally-waffy babe: Yeah I saw a sexy male watch sometime last month… Christian Dior that was so beautiful I couldn’t stand it… yeah there are some good memories of my dad… I’m working through

Fatoumatta: I tried to go on your blog a few days ago and noticed that you had gone private… hmmm… I’ll email you or you can email me at overwhelmednaijababe@gmail.com

Fluffycutething: where you been this babe?!?! Awww at your friend and his t-shirt… that’s so cute… I have a huge brown teddy bear Dr. Awilo Longomba… it was one of the gifts my mom gave me when I came to Canada… I still have it… it moves with me from house to house… I hardly if ever sleep without it… my friends all thing he’s hideous but I think he’s one of the most beautiful things in the world… so I can understand… and thanks for the hug darling… take care

Zena: thanks sweetie… lol@you and your toast… that’s cute… I don’t even know what I say… but you already know how I feel about you… love you back sweetie… thanks.

Coco: ahhhh… it’s funny cos I realized that in north America most people especially females don’t wear watches but in Africa most people do… I actually didn’t until recently… and I won’t wear anything excessively feminine… or even feminine…

Positive girl: awwww…. That’s cute…

Ozymandias: lmao… im for fit kill me oh… its only you that will be thinking the what if at this moment… lol… its all good jare… how you doing gorgeous?

Catwalq: lmao@ this ur new sexilicious photograph… ko easy oh… those four lines pretty much summed up the entire post… thanks my darling… I have to yarn you soon oh…
